The Mothers' Story Project: A Mothers' Story

Sheila Leonard

Year of Surrender:  1970
City and State at the time of surrender:  New Roads, Louisiana

Age at the time of surrender:  19

Current residence:  California

I surrendered my child because I was single and my parents didn't want me to keep my son. The town that I lived in was small and everybody was nosy and liked to talk.
Since my son was adopted, I always still think of him on his birthday and around the holidays.

My son is 38 years old, and I still don't know where he is.
